Biography
A neurologist specialising in neuroimmunology and neuro-oncology, and an international authority on the description of autoimmune encephalitis, having characterised 11 of the 17 known types. His findings have revolutionised diagnosis, our understanding of pathogenic mechanisms and therapeutic strategies in this field. After spending the early part of his career in Barcelona, he went on to work at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York) and at the Universities of Arkansas and Pennsylvania. He currently heads the Autoimmune Neuronal Pathogenesis group at IDIBAPS–Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, a position he holds alongside his role at the CaixaResearch Institute.
