The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) is created with support from ”la Caixa” Foundation.

ISGlobal is founded with the support of the ”la Caixa” Foundation, and the VHIO’s Research Unit for Molecular Therapy of Cancer (UITM) – CaixaResearch is inaugurated.

Collaboration with VHIO begins, providing ongoing structural support for its research and innovation activities.

In collaboration with the Catalan Government, ”la Caixa” Foundation establishes IrsiCaixa, the country’s first research centre focused on HIV/AIDS.

The “la Caixa” Foundation Fellowships programme is launched to boost the careers of excellent students and researchers.

The Anti-Tuberculosis Institute opens. Here, Dr Xalabarder used one of the first electron microscopes in Spain, imported by ”la Caixa” Foundation.

”la Caixa” Foundation takes over the Empar de Santa Llúcia, a residence that cared for blind girls and women. It also becomes involved with the Santa Madrona Clinic, a maternity centre that was part of the Institut de la Dona que Treballa.

A new science campus in Barcelona

Our state-of-the-art building is located next to the CosmoCaixa Science Museum. Together, they form an exemplary campus for research and science outreach. This proximity enables synergies and joint initiatives that help bridge science and society.

An ecosystem to drive science and innovation

The CaixaResearch Institute is part of a broader ecosystem of biomedical research centres supported by ”la Caixa” Foundation. This collaborative model enhances existing synergies, fosters new connections across scientific communities and places the Institute’s scientific and technical resources at the service of all these centres.
