The CaixaResearch Institute receives the 2026 Abat Oliba Award
The award, presented in the institutions and personalities category, recognises the institute’s contribution to social progress through research and knowledge.
On 29 May, the CaixaResearch Institute received the 2026 Abat Oliba Award during the institutional ceremony of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU, held at its Bellesguard campus in Barcelona. This distinction, which the university presents each year as part of its most important academic ceremony, recognises organisations and individuals who stand out for their contribution to society, in line with the values that inspire the institution: human dignity, the common good and a commitment to knowledge.
The award takes its name from Abbot Oliba, a leading figure in 11th-century Catalonia, bishop of Vic, promoter of the reform of the monasteries of Cuixà and Ripoll, and founder of the monastery of Montserrat. Inspired by this legacy, the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU honours each year organisations and leading figures from different fields whose work contributes to the development of a more committed and cohesive society.
In the 2026 edition, the CaixaResearch Institute was honoured alongside other institutions and personalities such as the Abbey of Montserrat, Lieutenant General Manuel Busquier Sáez, Càritas Catalunya, Joan Castells Trius and the Board of the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Família. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the academic, social and institutional spheres.
The award was received by Àngel Font, Executive Director of the CaixaResearch Institute and Deputy General Director for Research and Fellowships at the ”la Caixa” Foundation. Josep Maria Coronas, Director General of the Foundation, also attended the ceremony.
This recognition comes just a few weeks after the inauguration of our centre, a milestone that marks the beginning of a new chapter for us.The award reinforces our commitment to excellent research at the service of society and encourages us to continue driving scientific advances that help improve people’s health.
