CaixaResearch Institute Collaborates in the 3rd Immune Dysregulation Workshop Barcelona
The event gathers leading international immunology experts, taking place between the 17th and the 19th of December al the CosmoCaixa Science Museum and Sant Joan de Deu Hospital premises
Today, December 17th, the 3rd Immune Dysregulation Workshop Barcelona: From Basics to Clinics to Advanced Therapies, kicks off. This hybrid scientific event, held with the collaboration of the Caixa Research Institute, brings together leading international immunology experts to share the latest advancements in understanding, diagnosing, and treating diseases related to an imbalanced immune system, like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, type 1 diabetes or IPEX syndrome.
Dr. Àngel Font, Executive Director of the CaixaResearch Institute, has delivered the official welcoming address, underlining the central role of immunology research in addressing critical health challenges of our time—including infectious diseases, cancer, neurological disorders, and global health threats.
“La Caixa foundation, with more than 100 years of history, from the very beginning has always been believed in science. Science as a leverage of change, as a way of improving society. We are really happy to have you here because next to this venue, it is growing a new building for the new CaixaResearch Institute and we hope that in the coming weeks we will install the first research groups. A research institute devoted to immunology to look for solutions to a variety of diseases” stated Dr. Ángel Font.
Over the three-day workshop, participants will engage in a series of scientific sessions covering mechanisms of immune dysregulation, innovative therapeutic strategies and cutting-edge insights into regulatory T-cells and other advanced treatments.
Dr. Rabinovich, Senior Group Leader at the CaixaResearch Institute will present its research advances on galectins, a group of proteins that bind to carbohydrates, which have a promising future as glycocheckpoints for immunotherapy.
The programme will culminate on Friday with a technical workshop dedicated to Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products manufacturing, offering hands-on perspectives on production and quality standards.
Throughout the three days, dedicated spaces for discussion and exchange will foster networking and collaboration among clinicians, researchers and trainees from around the world—reflecting the collaborative ethos that also inspires the new CaixaResearch Institute flagship building, currently under construction adjacent to the workshop venue.
Organised by the FOCIS Center of Excellence CIS-UB, a strategic partnership between Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, and the University of Barcelona, the workshop exemplifies Barcelona’s growing prominence as a hub for immunology research and translational innovation. Concerning this ecosystem and related to the importance of the collaborative work, D r. Font highlighted the importance of the CaixaResearch Institute collaborating with “Hospital Clínic and Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, top-leading world-class hospitals”. The CaixaResearch Institute is proud to contribute to this landmark scientific meeting and to support the exchange of knowledge that drives progress in immunology.
